New Orleans gives its humble sandwich a street party this Sunday.
The 18th annual Oak Street Po-Boy Festival is on Sunday 8 November, from 10am to 6pm, between the 8100 and 8700 blocks of Oak Street. It is produced by the Oak Street Merchants, Residents and Property Owners and has run every autumn since 2007.
Around 40 food and drink vendors line the street, and celebrity judges pick winners in a po-boy competition.
What is on
- Live music on multiple stages
- An opening parade
- An arts market
- A Kids Zone and a designated quiet area
- Game watch areas and history panels
- A VIP area
Good to know
- The festival is free to enter, but a wristband is required to buy a po-boy. Advance wristbands are on sale now.
- A portion of the proceeds goes to Son of a Saint, a non-profit that mentors fatherless boys.
- Organisers say crowds of up to 50,000 come to Oak Street for the day.
