New Orleans gives its favourite treat a whole day this Saturday.
The 9th annual Beignet Fest is on Saturday 7 November at the New Orleans City Park Festival Grounds, 4 Friederichs Ave, from 10am to 6pm.
Vendors serve the beignet in dozens of different dishes, from traditional powdered sugar to crabmeat, praline, bananas Foster and seafood-stuffed, and compete for Best Beignet in traditional, sweet and savoury categories. There are vegan, gluten-free and non-beignet options too.
Proceeds benefit the Beignet Fest Foundation, which supports local children and families touched by autism.
