Chichester is lighting up its streets for a big birthday.

On Saturday 31 October, Chichester City Council is holding a lantern parade to celebrate 800 years of the council. It is inspired by an old city tradition, when the Mayor walked the streets behind a round lantern now known as the Municipal Moon.

Led by Petworth Town Band, the parade leaves the Council House on North Street at 4pm and stops at the Market Cross. There the Mayor gives a special proclamation for the anniversary, followed by a blessing from the Reverend Canon David Nason. The parade then carries on along East Street to Priory Park, finishing at about 4.30pm.
