Hundreds of handmade lanterns will be carried through Boston town centre on 27 November, as the free Illuminate lantern parade returns.

The route runs from Central Park to Fish Hill. This year's theme is 'Looking Up', with lantern designs inspired by the carvings, sculptures and other details on the town's buildings. A Bostonian mermaid lantern will lead the way.

Local artists, schools, families and community groups are taking part, with live music, dancers, puppets and handmade costumes along the way. It's organised by arts group Transported with support from Story Tellers.

What else is on

  • The parade is part of the Boston Christmas Festival, 27 to 29 November, across the town centre and Market Place.
  • Expect a Christmas market with local craft, food and gift traders, plus family entertainment, festive lighting and live music.
  • Community lantern-making workshops run before the parade, so residents can make their own.
